We spent all day yesterday back at Shriner’s Hospital for Brooklyn’s post surgery follow up with her surgical team. The x-rays look good – healing is happening, new bone growth forming – all good signs. We are still unable to bear any weight (which is expected!) but we are allowed to slowly start physical therapy and got the OK for some pool time!
Brooklyn (as always) was a trooper – all smiles after the encouraging words from her surgeon)

We waited patiently for the PT and Orthopedist to decide on bracing.

Unfortunately, as time passed, I think the stress (and exhaustion) of the day kicked in and Brooklyn had a pretty major seizure – stayed blue a little too long for my comfort. Luckily, we were in good hands and everyone took very good care of her! It did delay our trip home a bit but we made it!
The doctor did give us a smaller hip abductor pillow for at night but added a knee immobilizer for her to wear – she is bending her knee too much at night. She did awesome with it last night!

She is least thrilled with her new day time brace which is pictured below (my sleeping beauty) – but is getting used to it. This brace puts her in better form/hip abduction while also letting her sit completely upright. It also helps keep her back straighter – she has still been wanting to “lean to the left” which is not good as we are trying to keep scoliosis under control too throughout this process.

She never ceases to amaze me with her courage, bravery, and patience that she lives each day with….oh and that smile – I love that smile ;)

Beautiful little Brooklyn. She tugs at my heartstrings. You are both very courageous ladies Kelly.
