Math IS NOT one of Brookie’s favorite subjects, can’t say that I blame the girl – I am not a fan either. Of course we all need to learn, right?! Today Brookie was reviewing some addition facts. We found these cool cards that both show the number and write out the word. There are numbers on both sides of the cards – when using the clear board gives us access to 14 different answers at once which it allows us to cover more facts in one session. Brooklyn tends to get bored when we have to take a break and change the answers that are on the board.
This shows one side of the cards:

This shows the back:

Mom holds up a flash card with a problem and then Brooklyn can eye gaze to her answer.

We want to review the addition and subtraction facts with her and then move on to new info.
The summer is going fast and we have SO MUCH to review to get ready for second grade!

Hi! I found your blog from a comment you made on Momastery and I just have to say your family is beautiful! My daughter has cerebral palsy and we are working on alternative communication methods for her and have done the eye gaze system you have above. Thanks so much for sharing the pictures – it gives me more ideas on how to implement a low tech option.
Emma has been working with the Eco2 with Ecopoint (eyegaze) to communicate for the last few months. It’s been more successful for her than anything else we’ve tried – mostly because she tends to not “participate” with us in communication after a few minutes. This happens with most things we’ve tried but not with the Eco2. Just thought I’d mention it in case you are ever looking for other options to test out. I’m a big fan of having a good low tech and high tech options because they can both be used in various situations.
Also, have you heard of PODD? I know a few children doing really well with that method.
