PT and AFO’s

Sorry if this title sounds like secret code :) We have FINALLY been approved to start Physical Therapy again – surgery was in April but who is counting right? We have a new physical therapist and we LOVE her. Amber saw her last week when she sat in on the first session. I gave her a purple card and guess what??? She went online and checked out Rett Syndrome, she had even clicked over to this blog and was asking Brooklyn all about the Wiggles concert. yep. awesome.

PT will of course be a slow start, but we will get there! Lots of stretching and a slow progression into weight bearing. We will also be hitting the pool once a week too for Aqua Therapy! I also have an amazing friend who is coming over twice a week to do massage on Brookie. Yep….we will get this girlie back to bearing weight, standing, and dare I say taking steps?!?! Yes, I think I will say JUST that!

Brookie was also cast for her new AFO’s. Chris is AWESOME with Brookie!

It sits for a few minutes then gets cut off – easy peasy!

Look at that cute little casting

We had to do some measurements too – there is a difference in the length of her legs since surgery. They had to cut a section of her femur bone out to rebuild her pelvic bone. That, along with her muscle tightness we have quite a discrepancy between the two legs. Her left AFO will be “built up” on the bottom to help make up the difference. If needed, we will adapt a shoe to help level out as well.

You will soon be hearing my back to school post…yikes…is it that time already?? NOOOOOOO and this year I have two back packs to get ready!

Glad things are moving along! When Sarah started PT after her surgery she was put on a ’tilt table’ where she would lie on her back on the table and then they would tilt it partly up so she would start putting weight on her feet. Over the weeks they tilted it further upright until finally she was straight up. Very clever!
    I can’t wait to hear of Brooke’s progress :)
