Boston turns six in less than a month and we are no where near being potty trained. This is actually pretty common in the autism community as well as in the Down Syndrome community. As far as kiddos with both I’ve heard mixed reviews: in one of the Facebook groups I am in there are teens and even adults that are not potty trained. I’m not sure where Boston will fall but I want to try.
So we start small….adding a photo and button to our wall. This one saying “Help me change my pants please.” He has mastered using them to ask for food or a drink so why not!?!
My plan is to take him over to the button and tap it to hear the message and grab the photo of his diaper off the wall before I take him into his room to change him. My hope is that he likes the feeling of being dry and starts to request that his pants be changed. Ideally – over time transitioning into wanting to use the bathroom. (Fingers crossed)
We gotta start somewhere, right?
